Fees

General Information
Fees are reviewed on the 1st of September each year, but remain fixed otherwise. Advice on credit facilities, whereby fees may be paid by monthly instalments, can be obtained on request.

In calculating the overall cost of a course, it should be borne in mind that GCSEs at Bartholomews are often completed in just three terms, and A levels in three or four terms, instead of the normal six terms at traditional establishments. Furthermore any individual tuition missed through illness or other unavoidable absence may often be made good without additional cost. It should be noted, however, that hours of tuition may never be transferred from one term or from one student to another. In addition it should be assumed that refunds are not made under any circumstances, including in the event of reading weeks, suspension or expulsion.

Invoices are submitted termly in advance in respect of tuition, examinations and accommodation and are due at least fourteen days before the first day of tuition in each term, or by return of post, whichever is the later. The one exception to this is that, if parents prefer, fees for any student in their very first term may be settled in two equal instalments, the first as stated above and the second by the mid-way point of that term. Please note that those taking advantage of credit facilities, or settling accounts by any method other than at least full-termly in advance, may need to provide details for credit reference purposes.

For all students the initial registration fee is £47. Parents may choose to receive accounts either based on standard termly charges, or according to hourly rates. In general, the former method is the more economical for those on full-time courses of one whole term or longer. Students registering on a part-time basis must enrol for a minimum of one hour per week of individual tuition and for at least ten weeks.

Standard Termly Tuition Charges
The rates given below cover all group and individual tuition, except for science practical work, considered reasonably necessary under normal circumstances, for the equivalent of up to four A levels or eight GCSEs, in standard terms of ten weeks' duration.
Either Annually in advance £15,200
Or Termly £5,200
For terms of between five and ten weeks in duration, costs may be calculated on a pro-rata basis. For terms of greater than ten weeks a charge of £350 per additional week should be added. When the amount of tuition required is greater than normal, it may be necessary to calculate costs on an individual basis.

Hourly Tuition Charges
Those attending on a short-term or part-time basis may find it more economical to receive accounts according to the exact number of hours of tuition required in each term. On this basis the hourly rate for individual tuition is £52 for terms comprising fifty hours or more, or £56 for terms comprising less than fifty hours, but, as for those electing for standard termly charges, it should be borne in mind that this also covers the cost of personal supervision, help with university applications and other facilities available to students at the College. Each hour of individual tuition may be converted into two hours of group tuition without extra cost being incurred, but supplementary accounts may be issued in arrears, should the overall amount of tuition exceed that originally anticipated.

Science Practicals
Science practicals towards AS and A2 coursework or examination units are charged at £300 per unit involved. Those for GCSEs are charged at £240 per single subject entry.

Examinations
Non-modular GCSEs £70 per single subject entry
1-unit AS or A2s £90 per unit
2-unit AS or A2s £45 per unit
3-unit AS or A2s £30 per unit
For other examinations, such as modular GCSEs, costs will be quoted separately, but will equate approximately to the rates given above.

In cases where entries have already been made at another centre, and examinations are transferred to Bartholomews, charges are made at half the rates given above. Charges for other examinations, and to external candidates when admitted, are costed according to individual circumstances and examination requirements.

Late Entries, Re-marks and Script Return
Additional costs may be incurred for late entries and re-marks or in unusual circumstances such as, for example, when students request their own private examination room and invigilator. Requests for the return of examination scripts will be processed on receipt of written request and payment in advance of £20 per original script or £30 for a quick response photocopy which includes a report, where possible, by one of our tutors.

Accommodation
For those requiring accommodation to be arranged for them by the College, a deposit against damages of £200 is required at the time of registration. This is refundable at the end of the course, providing that all other costs have been cleared. Part or all of this deposit may be forfeited when accommodation is vacated at short notice.

Payment for accommodation can be made either through Bartholomews or directly to landlords. An administration fee of £100 is charged for any term in which new accommodation is arranged, but subsequently only for term in which payment is made through the College.
