Tuition
Individual Tuition
The great majority of teaching at Bartholomews takes the form of one-to-one tuition.
Students on courses of individual tuition have the advantage of the maximum possible flexibility in course structure. They have complete freedom to choose syllabuses which best suit them personally and can sometimes complete a whole A level or GCSE from scratch in as little as one term. Timetables can be extremely flexible and can often be arranged to fit in with students' individual circumstances. Courses of individual tuition can commence at any time during the year. However, students or tutors may request small group sessions, numbers permitting, if they feel that it would be beneficial.
Group Tuition
Many of the students at Bartholomews receive entirely individual tuition but, numbers permitting, group tuition may sometimes be arranged if appropriate. Additionally, students are sometimes encouraged to receive some of their tuition in small groups and some individually. In particular,
we have found this useful in Art, Media Studies and Business Studies, as well as for re-take courses in GCSE English and Maths.
Science Practical Work
In Science subjects students are generally required to receive practical instruction at certain stages during the course. This takes place in the College's own laboratories, in groups of usually no more than four students.
Study Skills, Essay Style and Examination Technique
Although most tutors will cover these apsects in tutorials, when appropriate, students are encouraged to receive specific coaching in study skills, examination tactics and essay technique. This is of particular help to students who find it difficult to organise their time and work effectively.
